Light Rail Day

Welcome to our eighth Light Rail Day! This year we are focusing on several projects in the Nordic countries and of course, on the «Good Story of Bybanen in Bergen» caused by the new tram system.

A new line to the airport, a new depot and the extension of existing trams in Bergen are more than enough reasons for hosting Light Rail Day in Norway for first time. Also for the first time the Nordic Light Rail Prize is going to be awarded. We will have more information on that later here on our homepage. The company Stadler is the main sponsor of Light Rail Day 2016.

Light Rail Day will begin earlier than usual this year. The guided tur with Bybanen in the morning hours on the Monday is fully booked and you can unfortunately not register for this tour any longer. Already at 13.00 h we will start with a visit to the new depot. There we will hear about the extension of the Variobahn trams and about the operation of the system in general. In the evening we will host the Networking Dinner held at the «Kalfaret Brygghus», close to the «Grand Hotel Terminus», where the conference will take place the following day. 

As in all previous years, we have been able to recruit international speakers for Light Rail Day, this year from four different countries. The preparations for this year's event have been and still are a challenge due to tax and administration rules, the implementation of new payment methods and a new price policy. The support from both Bergen Bybane, the main sponsor Stadler and other sponsors and friends is a significant help, which we appreciate very much. We do our upmost to secure Light Rail Day's reputation as the international conference for city tram in Northern Europe.
