Energy International is looking for a Design Manager to coordinate the overall design of Wind Turbine substructures and foundations for Offshore Wind - from conceptual to detailed design. You will play a crucial role in designing green energy solutions and working with great people and ensuring operational and technical excellence to make our customers’ needs come true.

As part of the Wind and Renewables unit in our Energy International division, you will be a key resource to strengthen our capacity to deliver design projects within offshore wind. You will collaborate closely with senior Business Developers, offshore wind specialists, and clients to ensure we deliver to our client's expectations.

You will join COWI's international energy division, where more than 400 skilled energy and marine experts work with solutions supporting the green transition and climate adaptation agenda. Working as one strong team, we plan, design, and optimise the future energy systems together with our customers and colleagues, to meet the ever-increasing need of smart solutions to reduce climate change impacts. We focus on a balanced customer portfolio of contractors and owners to whom we pursue a two-track service delivery focus of highly specialised design services and expansion into project management/owners engineering consultancy services.

JOIN OUR OFFSHORE WIND TEAM

The Wind Energy and Renewables organization consist of 150 dedicated colleagues working from Denmark, Germany and Norway, while collaborating closely with energy and marine colleagues in the United Kingdom, India, and North America. You will join a dynamic team that delivers both onshore and offshore wind energy solutions and offers full lifecycle services to our customers. We have a track record in making wind energy solutions possible even under the most demanding conditions – deep waters, on challenging soil, and in regions with high seismic activity. We design floating and bottom fixed structures, including jackets, monopiles, and gravity-based substructures. Since 1980, we have been involved in more than 1,000 wind power projects in 70 countries.

Our offshore wind organisation consists of dedicated specialists and project managers, covering all main design services. We work in a highly international environment with projects all over the world.

DESIGN THE FUTURE WITH A GLOBAL TEAM OF EXPERTS

As part COWIs Offshore Wind organization, we are looking for candidates with experience in structural design of substructures and foundations for offshore wind turbines, offshore substations and/or offshore installations in general during all project phases, from conceptual design to detailed design. As a Design Manager, you will manage the technical activities in the project by leading the technical disciplines, including ensuring of fulfilment of technical requirements, interfaces, and coordination of technical documentation. You will be fully responsible for providing technical input and leadership to a range of offshore wind projects around the world.

The role may require international travel nominally on a short-term basis between other COWI offices in Europe and worldwide or working from client / project offices. The role can include supporting the business development team in developing offshore wind project opportunities.

Key tasks in the position includes the following:

  • Providing technical leadership on our design projects
  • Leading the design of foundation structures for offshore wind from feasibility stage through detailed design, including construction support in accordance with project requirements
  • Coordinating development of the design between all technical disciplines
  • Providing guidance to the project team and leading by example
  • Taking overall design decisions when required
  • Ensuring that the design is according to requirements, including specifications and standard
  • Ensuring certification of design
  • Engaging as a key member of the Project management team
  • Developing design methodologies and contributing to knowledge sharing
  • Leading client meetings and building relationships with clients and other stakeholders

You hold a B.Sc., M.Sc. or PhD in structural or geotechnical engineering and have 10 years or more experience with design of substructures and foundations in multi-disciplinary environments within Offshore Wind or Offshore Oil&Gas.

Furthermore, you:

  • Have proficient communication skills in English (oral and written)
  • Have experience as Project manager
  • Can work across disciplines and manage cultural differences
  • Value close customer relations
